The members of CLAS and their allies developed a Regional Agenda for NCDs by 2030 with the purpose of setting strategic lines that allow achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations (UN), in particular Goal # 3 “Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.” This objective is also in line with the PAHO Sustainable Health Agenda for the Americas 2018-2030, specifically Objective #9 “Reduce morbidity, disability and mortality from non-communicable diseases, trauma, violence andmental healthdisorders ”.
From the results of the development of this Regional Agenda for the prevention and control of NCDs, 5 regional and transversal priorities emerged that will be reviewed and updated as appropriate on different occasions on the path to 2030:
1) Promote transparency in the public policy development process
2) Promote fiscal policies that increase the cost of unhealthy products including tobacco, ultra-processed foods, sugary drinks and alcohol
3) Promote the prohibition of all forms of advertising, promotion and sponsorship of tobacco products, unhealthy food products and alcoholic beverages
4) Promote the transformation of the primary health system that allows effective care for people with hypertension and diabetes, in the context of universal health coverage
5) Develop and implement a program of interference in international spheres that impact national and regional action
